6-Week EcoStitch Fashion, Apparel & Trades Program
Piloted with the Las Vegas–Clark County Library District, this six-session EcoStitch series is our
Basic Eco-Sewing 101 pathway—designed to move learners from “I’ve never touched a machine”
to finishing real projects they can wear, use, or gift.
Basic Eco-Sewing 101
What to Expect
- Learn sewing machine basics, safety, and studio etiquette in a calm, hands-on environment.
- Practice straight seams, simple patterns, and reading beginner-friendly instructions.
- Complete core projects such as a tote bag, a simple garment piece, and a small upcycled item.
- Work in a small group with step-by-step instructor support and time for questions.
- Connect each project to sustainability—how sewing helps reduce waste and extend the life of clothing.

EcoStitch Alterations & Repair Lab
This EcoStitch lab teaches youth and adults how to hem, repair, and refresh the clothes they already own—saving
money, reducing waste, and building confidence every time they fix instead of throw away.
What to Expect
In the Alterations Lab, learners will:
- Bring in items like jeans, pants, skirts, dresses, or jackets that need simple fixes.
- Learn how to pin and mark garments for hemming and basic fit adjustments.
- Practice hand-stitching and machine techniques for repairs and refinements.
- Explore creative ways to refresh pieces—like changing buttons or adding simple trims.
- Learn or review thrifting and upcycling basics, including the environmental impact of fast fashion and why sustainable choices reduce textile waste.

EcoStitch Youth Programs: Sewing, Money, Mindset, Real-World Skills & Environmental Stewardship
We primarily serve 7th–12th grade youth, with select programs for elementary students. Through sewing and upcycling, we teach real-world skills while planting the seeds of mini-entrepreneurs and future income-earners who understand financial literacy and their power to reduce waste. Each workshop weaves together environmental preservation, water conservation, and creative arts with emerging skills in AI, finances, mental and emotional well-being, and sustainability. Our goal is to help young people see that what they create with their hands—and cultivate in their mindset—can shape their future, bring balance to their personal and professional lives, and help protect the planet.

EcoStitch Youth Money, Mindset & Sewing Workshop

Program Overview
The EcoStitch Youth Workshop gives students a one-day introduction to sewing, sustainable fashion, and creative
problem-solving. In 5–6 hours, learners explore why fast fashion matters, practice basic machine skills and safety,
and transform donated or pre-loved fabric into a simple project they can proudly take home.
Students also learn a basic “price to sell” framework—how to think about materials, time, and fair profit—so they
can begin to see how one project could become a product, side hustle, or future career path.
What to Expect
- Welcome, introductions, and a quick EcoStitch “why it matters” overview on fashion waste and water use.
- Machine basics and safety: threading, basic stitches, seam practice, and studio expectations.
- Guided project such as a tote, pouch, or upcycled T-shirt item using donated or pre-loved fabric.
- Simple overview of how to price a sewn item (materials + time + fair profit) without deep business planning.
- Reflect & share: students present their pieces, one thing they learned, and one way they can be more sustainable with their clothes.

A SPECIAL COLLABORATION one-day youth fashion + money experience where teens create a shirt or tote, shop a fabric marketplace with
Kid Cash, and practice pricing, budgeting, and saving—blending EcoStitch sewing with Kids In Suits money mindset.
What to Expect

- Use Kid Cash to “shop” a mini fabric marketplace and rent a machine/space.
- Sew a custom t-shirt or tote in the EcoStitch Sewing Lab.
